“Plett”, accurately known as Plettenberg Bay, is a trendy beach town located on the Garden Route in South Africa’s Western Cape.

Plettenberg Bay has been nominated as Africa’s top beach destination in the World Travel Awards for 10 consecutive years, but 2020 marked ‘11th time lucky’ for the town, as its 20km of coastline combined to rake in first prize when winners from across the continent were announced on Monday.

Residents and visitors in Plett have enjoyed the yearly visits from a small group of greater flamingo, once thought to be a ‘fluke’ visit.

If you drive towards Plett and turn inland onto one of two roads that points to Wittedrift, you’re in for a surprise. You’ll be entering a completely different world from the beaches and bars of Plett. Instead, welcome to a world of wetlands, forests, fynbos and grasslands – watched over by the big, blue, bulky range of the Tsitsikamma mountains.

If there’s one thing that Plettenberg Bay has in spades, it’s natural beauty. And, when better to enjoy that natural beauty than during the magical golden hour as the sun rises and sets.
